Hello all,
For those of you whom I have not yet contacted, I'm Billy, from the
Beaumont-Wilshire Repair Team. Ankist gave me your e-mail address so
that we can let you know about how and when to get involved with our
projects.
After some final discussions with Parks, we have quite a schedule change
for the Beaumont-Wilshire VBC7 Repair. We will only be working on the
weekends with one exception noted below.
Sunday 5/20
At Wilshire Park we will be building a small bio-swale from noon to
4:30. This will be in conjunction with a workshop/information session
with the Grey water Guerrillas, a group from the Bay area, bring their
expertise to the VBC. They will give a discussion about applicable
rain/gray water treatment for situations like ours at the park and also
things you can do at home. These have a great book "Dam Nation" that is
worth checking out which discusses the history and methods of
do-it-yourself water management. As the swale is smaller than we
planned, we will only need 5-10 volunteers actually working on it
however, all are welcome to come hear the Gray water Guerrillas and talk
with them further while some of us build the swale. They will be around
during construction giving an extended workshop about water treatment
that YOU can implement. They are also giving a 'classroom session' the
previous day, Sat. 5/19, with a general overview of water treatment
techniques, check the VBC schedule for details, this will be a great
accompaniment to what we are doing on the following day.
ART IN THE PARK- instead of a mural (that will happen down the road) we
are hosting three days of art in the park for all ages. Paintings and
art will be displayed on the pavilion wall.
The schedule for this event is: Sun, 5/20 1-4pm; Wed, 5/22 2-5pm; Sat
5/26 1-4pm.
Saturday 5/26
INTERSECTION REPAIR/ BLOCK PARTY!!!! We have a permit to block off the
intersection of 37th and NE Shaver for an all day Pot Luck/Intersection
Repair. People are encouraged to bring food to share and everyone they
know to join in. We will be building a rock garden, wine barrel
planters and painting a huge mural in the middle of the intersection.
People involved with the ART IN THE PARK event are also welcome to come
over and partake.
Sunday 5/27
We will finish up the planters, if not done so the day before and any
other project. The mural will be completed on Saturday however.
Bring plenty of water and sunscreen with you. In addition to pot luck
food, some local businesses have offered us food on for each event! In
the event of rain, projects will be moved to the following day.
See you soon!
Billy
