Free Naturescaping Workshop

Sponsored by Beaumont-Wilshire Neighborhood Assn

A free, four hour workshop on Naturescaping will take place on
Saturday, March 17th. Naturescaping fosters healthy gardening
practices by using native plants which need relatively little or no
water, fertilizer or care once established. Homeowners save time,
money and energy while reducing water use, storm water runoff and
pollution. The workshop includes discussion, a slide show, a short
outdoor field trip, free guidebook, a free native plant, and
inspiration for any sized garden. Sponsored by The Beaumont Wilshire
Neighborhood Association and presented by East Multnomah Soil and
Water Conservation District, it will take place at the Wilshire United
Methodist Church at NE 39th & Shaver, Saturday, March 17th, 9am-1pm.
Although free, pre-registration is required and can be done by phone
or e-mail. Please include your name, address including Zip, telephone
#, and e-mail address. Email: naturescaping at yahoo.com Phone:
503-797-1842

The workshop agenda includes:

    *

An introductory discussion, " What is Naturescaping?" This
discussion explains the concept of Naturescaping and how it impacts
water quality; provides an explanation of watersheds and their
functions; and presents the idea of individual stewardship.
    *

A slide show that includes examples of many different
naturescaped yards, with a discussion of naturescaping as a decision
making process rather than a just landscape style.
    *

A discussion of core gardening practices, including pollution
prevention, erosion control, water conservation and alternatives to
pesticides.
    *

A case study to illustrate site planning principles.
    *

Short field trip to naturescaped yards or a nearby community project.
    *

      Native Plants slide show
    *

A question and answer session to address individual landscaping issues.
    *

A wrap-up that explains how Naturescaping relates to the
endangered species act and the importance of individual action.
