I just met with Jackie Dingfelder, the Oregon House Representative for our
neighborhood. It was a hurried meeting but we worked out a couple of things.
First I want to share an observation:
I'd be curious what other people think: I've noticed a trend of people moving
into our neighborhood fall into two categories: a few who get active in the
BWNA but then move away in a year or two, and then a lot of people who are
staying but aren't getting involved. I know it's a generalization but it's
what I've observed and my own vague opinion.
Anyway, here's what I talked with Rep. Dingfelder about:
1. She will be canvassing our neighborhood this coming Saturday to urge people
to register and vote, and I offered to help since I know the neighborhood
and would like to get more people in our neighborhood active and voting.
My other idea was that it would be a great opportunity to try to get more
people involved in the BWNA. Do we have or could be make up some kind of
flier that I could give people that would have information about the bi-
monthly meetings, the Web site, mailing list, etc.? I'd make one up myself
but I've gotten more ill again and could use some help to have something to
hand out.
2. Rep. Dingerfelder also felt she needs to get to know our neighborhood
better - she feels very well connected to the others she represents but not
really ours. As such, she said she would love to attend a BWNA meeting,
either a regular one or a special one, as she did 4-5 years ago, just to
let people voice their interests and concerns.
How would I go about helping arrange this? Personally, I think a "special"
extra meeting would be best so it could be dedicated to letting people let
her know what their concerns and opinions are, without having to worry
about the rest of the meeting agenda, etc.
3. If anyone wants to help canvass on Sat. please contact me, I'm unsure if
I'll be well enough to help but am going to try, but if anyone would like
to help I'll be coordinating it, starting some time after noon.
Again, it's *not* to canvass for Rep. Dingfelder, it's specifically to urge
people to get out and just vote, and hopefully pass out some BWNA
literature?
Feedback and assistance welcome. I'll be talking w/Rep. Dingfelder at the end
of the week and am just going to be trying to get well enough to help canvass
on Saturday.
Cheers, Rob V.
