Subject: [Key-communicators-list] Portland schools: School Choice lottery
reopens for Elementary, Middle Schools
Elementary, middle school students have new window to apply for
transfers
Last week, the Portland School Board voted to create new K-8 schools
and to adjust some boundaries and middle school assignments, changing
students' options for next year. This Friday, Portland Public Schools is
reopening the School Choice lottery for parents who may wish to request
a transfer for their elementary or middle school students.
The transfer lottery is reopening only for elementary and middle
school, not high school. Applications will be available on-line Friday
at www.schoolchoice.pps.k12.or.us (the best way to apply), and paper
copies are available at the Enrollment and Transfer Center, 501 N.
Dixon, from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Families who applied for a transfer before spring break do not need to
reapply; the earlier application stands. If the student's choices have
changed, families may file a new application, which overrides the
previous one. Families may also withdraw their previous application.
All applications must be in by the firm deadline of 5 p.m. on Monday,
May 22. A computerized lottery system assigns students to schools, and
families will be notified in mid-June.
For more information, contact the Enrollment and Transfer Center at
503-916-3205 or by email, enrollment-office at pps.k12.or.us.
