Land use: Willie noted that Whitaker School has been closed and the tram to
OHSU is still facing neighborhood opposition.
Due to the fatal accident at 32nd and Fremont, there has been activity
toward making traffic improvements along Fremont. Willie will follow up.
The development planned for 46th and Fremont probably
calls for some follow-up as well.
There was discussion about the cleanup happening at the
busted meth house on Alameda.

Tree planting: Heidi Blischke said that 89 people have signed up. Staging
area is set for the Methodist church near Bethany Lutheran. Melissa Ritter
and Heidi went to the training on the types of trees. Lists will go out to
tree planters of eligible trees. There will be a slide show for tree
planters. Now we need to recruit volunteers for the day of planting.
There was discussion about who would be asked to provide
the donated lunch on planting day.

Promotion: Willie showed off a flier for another neighborhood association,
suggesting we might have one designed.

CNN: Helen Koba said CNN's volunteer appreciation night is Thursday, Nov. 15.

Web presence: Rob Vaughan said there's a possibility for creating e-mail
addresses with aliases, i.e., "treasurer@bwna.org," etc.

Project Interwoven Tapestry: Debra Kennedy noted there is a potluck Nov. 29
linking the three refugee groups involved in the project. The project
involves the Russian and African and their receiving communities and looks at
refugee issues.

Resources: Bill Markwart mentioned a Web site called www.portlandmaps.org (or
.com) that has all kinds of info on individual properties and pictures.

meeting.

December meeting: Jeanne Federovitch will talk to a potential Santa Claus to
make an appearance at a "seasonal celebration." There will be a strong family
focus. Desserts and unwrapped toys will be solicited.

Newsletter distribution: One of the captains, who delivers to five or six
delivery people, is retiring. Bill said he delivered a copy to Beaumont
Middle School. Debra said a couple extra copies could go to the teachers'
lounge.

Boundaries: Willie has started talking to his neighbors about their interest
and what's involved in expanding the BWNA boundaries.

Beaumont Middle School: Bill said the principal was concerned with state
funding. The Community Care Day took care of painting the hallways, and the
school continues to seek volunteers for helping paint the classrooms. The
principal also appreciated the landscaping help. B ill suggested we invite a
school rep. to speak at one of the general meetings.
Jeanne said someone should be asked to write something for the
newsletter about goings-on at the school. Debra said a rep. from the school
should be on our board. There is a 75-year anniversary celebration scheduled
for spring 2002 for Beaumont Middle School.
Bill also visited other schools in the area.

Meeting adjourned at 8:47 p.m .
